Conor Murphy

In 2014 I was lucky enough to find an opportunity in the US which was the catalyst for me becoming a staff member at Chicago City Soccer Club.

Before making the jump Stateside, my background in soccer was very typical to many other young players in the UK. Having been involved in competitive soccer from as early as 7,  playing for a variety of youth clubs and having my family chauffeur me to numerous games and practices a week, any career in the game would be a positive outcome. Growing with the sport on and off the field eventually lead to playing for the University side & to a decent low league standard. Post-school, a switch to coaching was the best option to ensure it was a career for life this was still balanced by training and playing at every opportunity.

While at the University of Hertfordshire, part of the personal development piece was to obtain coaching badges in a multitude of sports but this obviously meant a gravitation towards climbing the coaching ladder within soccer. After leaving school I was afforded the opportunity at 21 to work with Watford FC in the community to provide and improve provisions in schools and for the disabled, while shadowing academy sessions for youth players. From there, a change of scenery (and culture) appealed massively and I was able to hold a position coaching in Michigan.

I hope to obtain my USSF B license as soon as possible to keep growing as a coach and as a person.
